Description: Bids were opened on April 3, 2020. Nashville Construction Company located in Nashville, Michigan is the contractor.
The Mt. Hope Highway bridge over Sebewa Creek is located less than ½ mile west of M-50. The existing bridge was closed in April of 2019 due to the poor condition. This $850,000 investment will replace the bridge with a new structure. The project is funded using State and Federal Local Bridge Funds in the amount of 95% of the construction costs. The remaining construction costs as well as all design and construction engineering will be paid for using Eaton County Road Commission funds.
The bridge design will use concrete abutments with steel tub girders and a precast concrete deck. The new bridge will be wider than the original bridge to provide room for two lanes plus narrow shoulders.
The bridge will be open this year; however, because the final concrete surface sealer is weather and temperature dependent, the completion date is extended to the following May. Because the bridge has been closed for a year, no detour will be posted.
