2016 Local Road Millage Program
May 19, 2016
On Tuesday, May 10, the Eaton County Road Commission opened bids on the first two contracts for the 2016 millage program resurfacing projects. The two contracts were awarded to the low bidder, Michigan Paving and Materials Company of Lansing, Michigan, for asphalt resurfacing of 9 miles of county local roads in Sunfield, Roxand, Vermontville, Chester, Kalamo, Carmel, Bellevue, and Walton Townships in Eaton County. The total cost of the repairs, paving, and restoration work will be approximately $914,000 and will be paid for entirely from the proceeds of the local road millage passed by voters in the fall of 2014. Bid openings on asphalt resurfacing in other areas of the county, and on gravel road work in the millage program, are scheduled for May 24th and June 14th.
Road Commission Engineer-Manager Blair Ballou said the Commission is pleased with the asphalt bid prices so far, which are 9% lower than last year. "After several years of reduced funding for county roads it is encouraging to be able to make quality repairs each year on at least some of the many local roads that need it," Ballou said. The contractor's schedule is not available yet, but all paving projects in the program are scheduled to be completed by September 23, 2016.
Sections of the following roads are included in the contracts: Bismark Highway, Woodbury Subdivision, Boyer Road, Allegan Road, Kinsel Highway, Lacey Lake Road, Gregory Lane, Joan Drive; Edgewood Road, Matthews Road.
More information on the millage program and a full list of projects for this year is available on our website or by calling the Road Commission office at 517-543-1630.
