Description: This project will resurface approximately 4.0 miles of Battle Creek Road from Five Point Highway to Carlisle Highway (Charlotte city limit). Work will include repairing joints and cracks in the underlying concrete pavement, trenching and paving the existing shoulders, asphalt surfacing over the existing pavement, culvert replacement, curb and gutter at the intersections, slope restoration, and minor ditching where necessary. Existing guardrail will be replaced with new guardrail. The expected life of a road project such as this one is 20 years.
The Michigan Department of Transportation awarded the project to the low bid of $1,526,250 from Lakeland Asphalt Corporation.
Federal Rural Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) funds and State Transportation and Economic Development (State D) funds administered through MDOT will pay a combined 96% of the contracted construction costs. The local matching costs not covered by grant funds plus design and construction engineering will be paid by the Eaton County Road Commission.
Battle Creek Road will be closed to through traffic from Five Point Hwy to Carlisle Hwy for the duration of the project. Except for a short time when the contractor is working within the Carlisle Hwy intersection, the intersection will remain open during construction.
