Michigan Avenue – Creyts Road to Dibble Avenue – Phase Two

Phase Two Anticipated Start Date: June 14, 2021

Scheduled Completion Date: August 13, 2021

Township: Delta

Description: Bids for this project were opened on May 1, 2020 and the contract was awarded. The award price for this project was $608,479.22. This project will resurface Michigan Avenue from Creyts Road to Theo Avenue, place a slurry seal to the existing asphalt pavement between Theo Avenue and Dibble Avenue, restripe Michigan Avenue between Creyts Road and Dibble Avenue with 3 lanes and bike lanes on each side, upgrade the existing sidewalk ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, construct concrete pathways on the western 300 feet of the project, and increase the radius at the southeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Creyts Raod. When complete, Michigan Avenue will have a continuous left turn lane and bike lanes between Creyts Road and Waverly Road.

As a result of federal funding restrictions and the I-496 reconstruction project, this project will be constructed in two phases. Both of these phases were scheduled to start after the last day of school in the summer and end before school resumes in the fall:

Phase One has been completed.

Phase Two began earlier this year with the concrete path and new curb radius construction at the Creyts Road intersection. The remaining road work is scheduled to begin Monday June 14th, 2021. This phase will complete the project including asphalt milling, asphalt paving, slurry seal, and restriping the road. During this Phase, Michigan Avenue will remain open with at least one lane of traffic maintained in each direction.

Description: Bids for this project will be opened on May 1, 2020. The estimate for this project is $551,000. As a result of federal funding restrictions and the I-496 reconstruction project, this project will be constructed in two phases. Both of these phases were scheduled to start after the last day of school in the summer and end before school resumes in the fall:

Phase One will occur during the summer of 2020. To avoid closing lanes for the entire length of Michigan Avenue at the same time I-496 has closures, this phase will only perform improvements to the ADA sidewalk ramps. There will be short lane closures only where work is occurring during this phase. No paving or road work will occur.

Phase Two will occur during the summer of 2021. This phase will complete the project including asphalt milling, asphalt paving, slurry seal, concrete pathway construction, improving the southeast radius at Michigan Avenue and Creyts Road, and restriping the road. During this Phase, Michigan Avenue will remain open with at least one lane of traffic maintained in each direction.
